Many people love laminate flooring for its durability, beauty and easy maintenance. However, one of the common questions we receive at FindAnyFloor.com is asking how to clean laminate flooring or what is the best way to clean laminate.

You can retain the pristine appearance of your laminate floor by sweeping or vacuuming it regularly to remove loose grit and dirt. A vacuum cleaner is the fastest way of going about this but a broom is a good alternative. Vacuum cleaners are the ideal choice because they are better able to pick up dirt and grit along the edges, in crevices or between planks. If you choose to mop your laminate floors, only use a mop that is slightly damp. Never wet mop a laminate floor as pooling water is likely to damage the floor. Be sure to dry with a clean, dry cloth immediately after mopping. A good way to protect a laminate floor is by placing doormats at entryways which will trap excess moisture and dirt, stopping it from getting into the home.

While laminate is known for its durability, it is not indestructible. It is recommended to mount furniture on floor protectors or glides to prevent accidental scratching or abrasion, and always ensure that heavy furniture is lifted while moving. Laminate flooring can scratch so take great care when moving any objects across the floor.

Many steam cleaning products are on the market that advertise they are safe for all types of floors. We never recommend steam cleaning laminate.  Also steel wool and scouring powders are a no-no. Avoid soap-based detergents, mop and shine products and never wax a laminate floor. With proper care and maintenance your laminate floor will provide your home years of beauty and warmth.

From my experience, using any water based product to clean laminate can cause damage the flooring. This is because the moisture is absorbed into the wood and can result in it to warp.

To remove any scuffs of marks, Quick Step sell a number of cleaning products such as Mix and Fix and Force.

Laminate floor has the high durability and easy installation. It is also suitable for your room which has the high activity like the family room. It is also good for the kitchen or any room which has the direct contact with the water.

I've always been an ‘anti-laminate’…until recently. There are so many advances in the tech that make it a great flooring choice.

Steer clear of bargain laminate! If it seems too good to be true--then it probably is. The differences between good and bad are mainly in the connection systems and wear layers. I've seen connections systems that seemed like they were dried cardboard and top layers that chip easily when jostled against other planks. Never a good situation.

My advice to all of my customers is: if you're going to be a DIY'er....then invest in good laminate. It will always make that margin of error fall in you favor.

Great post!

A COUPLE OF TABLESPOONS OF WHITE VINEGAR IN 1/2 A GALLON OF WATER AND A DAMP ONLY, MOP HAS BEEN THE BEST WAY WE HAVE FOUND TO GET A CLEAR,(STREAK FREE)SHINE, AFTER DUSR\T MOPING, ETC, OF COURSE!

Your suggestion about not to use steam cleaner is appropriate. It harms the lamination. So, the best way of cleaning a laminate floor is cleaning it on a daily basis by vacuum cleaner or other soft cleaner.

I have engineered wood floors. I used Holloways Quik Shine on them and now I can't get the wax off. I tried Holloways floor cleaner (deep cleaner) and it only made the wax harden to the floor. I am open for any suggestions that will enable me to safely remove this wax without ruining my floors
